Beyond the Hype: AI in Practice Powered by Duncan Cotterill

We're all tired of talking about AI. We get it.

So let's talk about what's actually happening, inside real businesses, right now, in New Zealand.

We're bringing together leaders who are in it, building it, implementing it, navigating the fallout, to give you an honest picture across three cuts:

The bleeding edge. What are the most forward-thinking businesses actually building? The implementations that sound like science fiction but are running in production. What is possible, and how does it actually play out?

The day-to-day reality. What are businesses genuinely using AI for, week in week out? Where is it saving time, reducing cost, and changing how teams work, and where is it falling flat?

The legal and organisational reality. What issues are surfacing as AI embeds into businesses regarding contracting, privacy, liability, IP, and governance? Where are businesses getting it wrong, getting stuck, or quietly creating risk they haven't accounted for yet? And what's going right?

No headlines or hype. Just case studies, sharing the reality of what Kiwi businesses are doing today.

Revved Write-Offs - Mark your calendar

Introducing Revved Write-Offs
Wednesday 10 June | 6:30 - 8:00 | QB Studios Ponsonby

Kiwis don't talk about failure. We should. Real founders. Real disasters. Real lessons.

You know the phrase. That year was a write off. That partnership was a write off. That whole chapter, the one you still cringe at, was a write off. Most leaders quietly bury those. Revved. Write Offs is the room where New Zealand's leaders stand up and say it properly. Three speakers. One genuine write off each. A business that failed. A decision that cost them. A year they'd call without hesitation.

Each talk is pecha kucha format: twenty slides, twenty seconds a slide. The clock runs automatically and it doesn't stop for anyone. Six minutes and forty seconds to name the loss, tell the truth about what happened, and call it.

Our first guests include:
Rochelle Moffitt - When fuck yes should have been a fuck no. Rochelle is a fuck yes person. Always has been. She'll back herself into a business, a partnership, a decision that raises eyebrows, and go anyway. It's not her life they're living. She doesn't need their judgement. She's never taken their opinion. Most of the time that's her superpower. Sometimes it's the most expensive thing about her. Here are the times the fuck yes should have been a fuck no, and what it cost her to find out.

James Boult - Founder of Gravity, the innovation venture studio behind some of New Zealand's most ambitious enterprise builds. He's the person organisations call when an idea needs to survive contact with reality. He knows where the money gets wasted, where decisions go sideways, and where the bodies are buried. He's here to talk about his own write off, and help you change yours.
